I've presented in schools and libraries since 2007 and work with staff to customize interactive sessions, tied to Language Arts and Social Studies curricula. If, during the course of a visit, even one student sees him or herself as a writer, it’s been a successful day!
Group Presentations are customized to meet various age-group needs and specific teacher/librarian requests. Student participation is highly encouraged, as discussions center on any combination of:
- writing process
- writing fiction vs. non-fiction
- developing as a writer
- roles in the publishing process
- research and discovery
- early 20th-Century immigration
- famly history
Mentoring, in one-on-one or small-group sessions, with critiques of students' writing.
Book Chat, included with an author visit booking, I conduct an informal discussion group with students who have read my novel, A Name of Honor.
Schools I have visited include: Brooks Hill Elementary School, Catherine McAuley School, Churchville Elementary School, Cobbles Elementary School, Dewitt Road School, Helen Barrett Montgomery School, Hilton Central Schools, James P.B. Duffy School, Lewiston-Porter Intermediate School, Martin B. Anderson School, Nathaniel Hawthorne School, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament School, Pittsford Community Library, Roberto Clemente School, St. John Fisher College, Victor Free Library, Victor Primary & Intermediate Schools, Woodville School
